What is Intersectional Environmentalism?

“This is an inclusive version of environmentalism that advocates for both the protection of people and the planet.

It identifies the ways in which injustices happening to marginalized communities and the earth are interconnected.

It brings injustices done to the most vulnerable communities, and the earth, to the forefront and does not minimize or silence social inequality.

Intersectional environmentalism advocates for justice for people + the planet.

— Leah Thomas

If it's unethical, it's unsustainable

Ethically Sourced

We would all be nowhere without the hardworking people behind the products we use. Therefore we source our ingredients exclusively from companies who treat their employees fairly. We do deep research on all our suppliers, and source US made products as often as possible. This lowers our carbon footprint, and allows us to keep better track of the conditions in which our materials are produced.

Made with intention

Vegan + Cruelty-Free

We love animals. Loooooooove them. Simple Alchemy Co is both PETA and Leaping Bunny Certified. We were shocked that there weren’t more sustainable AND plant-based home & body products available. That’s why we made a commitment to make sure every product we ever create is certified vegan and cruelty-free. We make everything slowly, preserving as many whole-plant benefits as possible.

Future focused packaging

Plastic-Free + Compostable

We make sure every product's packaging can be either reused, recycled, or home composted. We use tree-free labels made from sugarcane, which have a compostable starch-based adhesive. Our paper tubes and boxes are made right here in Oregon.

always

Shipped with Care

Every bit of packaging we use for shipping is compostable and/or recyclable, including the plant-based peanuts. Whenever possible, we reuse packing material.

we are proudly

Queer Owned + Operated

We are a wife+wife team based in the Pacific Northwest. We fell in love (and came out) in our early thirties, after nearly a decade of friendship. We believe in radical, intersectional equality. It’s our dream to grow as a company, and expand our team to include other BIPOC and LGBTQ+ employees.

Our Pledge

We stand in solidarity with Black, Indigenous + POC communities and The Planet.

We will not ignore the intersections of environmentalism and social justice.

We will use our privilege to advocate for Black + Brown lives in spaces where this message is often silenced.

We proactively do the work to learn about the environmental and social injustices Black, Indigenous + POC communities face without minimizing.

We respect the boundaries of BIPOC friends and activists and not demand they perform emotional labor or do the work for us.

We share our learnings with other environmentalists and our community.

We amplify the messages of Black, Indigenous + POC activists and environmental leaders.

We will not remain silent during pivotal political and cultural moments that impact BIPOC communities.
