Our Compostable Dish Brushes are Made With

Bamboo

Bamboo is a fast-growing, renewable resource that’s strong, lightweight, and naturally resistant to moisture—making it ideal for durable, compostable brush handles.

Agave

Agave fiber bristles are plant-based and compostable, offering a range of scrubbing power from gentle to heavy-duty—depending on fiber thickness.

Directions + Care for your Long-Handled Dish Brush

How to Use

For daily use:
First, dampen the brush and swirl it across your solid dish soap—or apply a bit of liquid soap to the bristles. Wash and rinse dishes as usual. After use, rinse the brush and place it bristle-side down in a dry, well-ventilated spot. This helps the fibers dry fully and extends the life of your brush. Avoid letting it sit in water or on your soap block.

To sanitize:
Do not put it in the dishwasher—high heat and moisture can warp or split the wood. Instead, rinse thoroughly and soak the bristles briefly in hydrogen peroxide or vinegar. Shake out and let air dry completely. Condition the wood with olive oil or food-safe wood conditioner to prolong its life.

To replace the head:
Use pliers to pinch the handle wires together, then slide the metal collar down to release the old head. Insert the new one, pinch again, and slide the collar back into place to lock it securely.

End of life:
When the head is worn out, use pliers to remove the bristles if needed, then compost the parts. The wooden handle typically lasts over a year with proper care. Remove any metal components before composting.

Your Questions, Answered

When the bristles wear out, pinch the metal ring and slide off the old head. Replace it with our matching Compostable Brush Head refill—it’s easy and waste-free.

Absolutely. The head is made from bamboo and sisal bristles—fully compostable after use. Just remove the metal clasp before tossing it in your compost bin.

Our brush bristles are made from natural plant fibers like sisal and agave. You might notice a mild, earthy scent at first, but it fades quickly after a few uses.

Yes! Every part of our brushes—including the bristles—is compostable at end of life. To speed up the composting process, the bristles can be separated from the handle first.

With daily use and proper drying between washes, our compostable brushes typically last several months. Replace when bristles become soft or worn.

Rinse your brush well after each use and let it dry bristle-side down. You can sanitize it occasionally by dipping the bristles in vinegar or boiling water.

Your brush isn’t just for dishware—use it to scrub your sink, stovetop, or counters (just test delicate surfaces first). One tool, many uses.

Sanitize Naturally

To freshen your brush, soak the bristles in white vinegar or hydrogen peroxide for a few minutes, then rinse and let dry bristles-down—easy and effective.

Condition for Longevity

Keep your bamboo handle looking its best by rubbing in a small amount of olive oil now and then. It helps repel moisture and extends the life of the brush.

We don't use this piece as often as the short scrubber but we love it when we do. Perfect for getting into glasses or using in a skillet for a quick wash out between fires.
